We started our quest to find the best parks in Saint Louis on June 1. I remember because it was freezing that day! I thought it would be a great day to go to the park since the weather was suppose to be nice. I put on a t-shirt and capris. I should have dressed like the mother sitting next to me at the park. She had the sense to wear a sweatshirt. But, it was June!
Anyway, we checked out Deer Creek Park in Maplewood. It was awesome!
What kid doesn't want to play on a playground shaped like a spaceship?! The slide was big hit!
The playground has both rubber and rock. As long as you have on the right shoes, I think parks with rocks can be great. Little boys can keep themselves entertained for a long time with just some rocks.
The park had lots of benches for parents, even some in the shade! It also had several fields to play in and a walking trail. I also appreciated the cities no smoking ordinance (whether people follow it or not might be another story).
We ended our visit with a trip to the concession stand. I haven't decided if having a concession stand next to a playground is a plus or minus. It was reasonably priced though. Even if it was only 50 something degrees, we decided snow cones are an appropriate way to celebrate any summer day at the park.
I give Deer Creek Park two thumbs up. It might not be appropriate for toddlers, but I think it would be a hit with any kid preschool age and up.
